why travel to india? 10 reasons to experience india for yourself.

there are some countries you visit because they're somewhere you've always wanted to see.

and then there are countries that seem to stay with you long after you've come home.

india is one of those places for me.

i've been returning for years, and everytime i leave with more questions than answers.

more places i want to explore.

more food i want to try.

more stories i want to hear.

more traditions i want to understand.

so, if you've been wondering whether india is somewhere you should actually visit, here are a few reasons i think it belongs on your list.

10 reasons why you should travel to india, jodi reilly transformational travel

1. because india is unlike anywhere else

india is enormous, layered and wonderfully complex.

the landscape changes.

the food changes.

the languages change.

the architecture changes.

the traditions change.

you can travel through completely different parts of the country and feel as though you've entered an entirely different world.

2. the history is extraordinary

india's history stretches back thousands of years.

there are ancient cities, temples, forts, palaces and monuments everywhere you look.

and then there are the stories behind them.

that's what makes exploring them so fascinating - and i’m no history buff.

3. yes, you should see the iconic places

i don't believe meaningful travel means avoiding the places everyone else wants to see.

the taj mahal is magnificent.

the ganges is extraordinary.

rajasthan is unforgettable.

and if you've dreamed about seeing these places, you absolutely should.

but don't stop there.

4. the people are a huge part of the experience

some of my favourite travel memories have nothing to do with landmarks.

they're conversations.

shared meals.

stories.

small moments of connection.

being welcomed somewhere.

learning about someone's life and realising how different it is from your own.

5. the food

if you love food, india is definitely going to make your mouth water and your palate dance.

every region has its own flavours, spices, traditions and ways of preparing food.

and food is so much more than something we eat while travelling.

it tells us about a place.

its history.

its people.

its culture.

its connection.

6. the colour

india is full of colour.

in its clothing.

markets.

festivals.

architecture.

food.

flowers.

and everyday life.

it's one of those places where you can look around and realise you've been standing there taking in the same scene for several minutes.

7. the traditions

one of the things i love most about travelling is seeing how traditions continue to shape everyday life.

in india, you'll encounter traditions, beliefs and practices that have been carried through generations.

you won't understand everything immediately.

and that's okay.

come curious.

ask questions.

listen.

8. the unexpected moments

this might actually be my favourite reason to travel to india.

because no matter how carefully you plan a journey, you can't plan everything.

you can't schedule the conversation you didn't expect.

the invitation.

the story.

the person you happen to meet.

the moment that makes you laugh.

the thing that makes you stop and think.

those moments are part of why i keep going back.

9. it might challenge the way you see things

travel puts you somewhere outside your normal routines.

you're seeing different ways of living.

different priorities.

different traditions.

different assumptions.

sometimes that simply makes you curious.

sometimes it makes you question something you've always taken for granted.

and sometimes you don't realise what an experience has given you until much later.

10. because you’ll never really be finished discovering it

this is probably the biggest reason i keep returning.

india doesn't feel like somewhere i could ever tick off a list.

every time i go back, there's more.

more places.

more stories

more people.

more questions.

and i love that.

so, should you travel to india?

if you've been thinking about india for years, perhaps it's time to stop wondering.

you don't need to know exactly what you're hoping to find - because i’ve discovered india has a way of turning that on it’s head LOL..

you just need to come curious.

in 2027, i'm taking two small groups - two completely different journeys, same country.

india uncovered is a slower, more human and curious journey through Kerala, Madurai, Mumbai and Varanasi, with time in Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first teaching after enlightenment, and experiences that take you deeper into the India most travellers never get to know.

colours of india is a vibrant journey through the India so many people dream of experiencing, from sunrise at the Taj Mahal and celebrating Holi to Rajasthan’s forts and palaces, the desert, the sacred Ganges and Rishikesh.

two very different journeys through india.

both fully hosted.

both with just 12 guests.

and both designed to leave room for the things we could never plan.

because there's the india you've dreamed about.
and then there's the india you never knew existed.

jodi x

maybe it's time to stop dreaming about india and actually go.

two incredible journeys. just 12 guests on each. everything taken care of.
